How To Find New Books at Williams Library

May 23, 2013

Did you know that you can quickly and easily find out what books are added to the Williams Library print collection? Here’s how!

Starting from the Williams Health Sciences Library homepage, click on the link library catalog link in the Journals & Books Section.

Have you ever noticed that there are three tabs on the first page of the library catalog? They are Basic Search, Advanced Search, and New Titles.

New titles? Yes! Click on that tab and you’ll see a series of drop-down menus. You can use those menus to filter to the books you want to see.

For example, here’s an image showing the books I found when I chose to filter to Highland Hospital (location), Nursing (subject), and 6 months (date). I also chose to sort by Date instead of title.

Did you notice the “Availability” field?

You can tell when a new book you might want to read has already been checked out by someone else. That’s when you need to request a hold. Never done that? Maybe that’ll be the next Tech Tip Thursday post.

In the mean time, you can always Ask A Librarian!

New Books at Williams Library!

May 31, 2012

We’ve added new books to the print collection at Williams Health Sciences Library. Please feel free to come down and browse and perhaps check something out!

Here are a couple of examples of some new titles that are aimed at students but also have a broader appeal:

Building a medical vocabulary: with Spanish translations

Image of Book Cover I chose this book mostly because it advertised that each chapter presents Spanish terms related to the chapter content. It also has Appendices of Spanish-English translations of common medical terms, and a “Quick Reference” for Spanish-Speaking clients that include pronunciation guides.

Now that I have the book in my hands I see that it’s got a lot of blank spaces for people to write in.

All I ask is that you photocopy the pages you want to use!

101 Things to do with spare moments on the ward

Image of Book CoverOne reviewer called this book, “a concentrated portfolio of advice for students and professionals everywhere.” I chose it because it seems like the kind of book that endeavors to make learning fun and interesting.

There’s even a website where you can submit your own ideas for “hidden learning opportunities”: www.101things.org

For those of you who might be thinking, “Spare moments? What spare moments?” I encourage you to glance through this book with an eye for activities that might make your work life easier.

Check back here for future posts about other new books in the Williams Health Sciences Library.
